ABOUT MARK

FORMALLY TRAINED

I earned the Post graduate diploma in Restoration & Conservation of fine metalwork from West Dean College of Arts and Conservation in England where I studied traditional metalworking techniques and developed critical hand skills and thought processes to make sensitive repairs to valuable artifacts. I completed internships at the Maritime Museum in Greenwich England in the metals department, and with a commercial silver restorer in North Carolina.

EXPERIENCED

I have worked in art conservation & restoration full-time since 2003, and have been in private practice in Durham, NC since the Fall of 2018 when I moved to be closer to family. Previously I was head of objects conservation at the Inter-museum Conservation Association, a regional non-profit conservation lab in Cleveland OH.

PROFESSIONAL

I am a peer-reviewed professional associate of the American Institute for Conservation of Historic and Artistic Works (AIC) and adhere to the AIC code of ethics. I document all of my work with written reports and high resolution digital photographs. I have provided services to many museums, businesses, historic homes and individuals.
